Why Choose a Reach-In Chamber?

When it comes to environmental testing, reach-in chambers offer an ideal balance between size and performance. While benchtop test chambers may seem appealing due to their smaller footprint and lower cost, larger test loads often require the additional heating and cooling capabilities of a reach-in chamber. ESPEC’s reach-in models are self-contained and optimized for their size, ensuring you get the best performance without sacrificing valuable lab space.

With decades of experience, ESPEC is a trusted name in environmental test chambers, relied upon by leading industries worldwide. Since 1989, we've been building the Platinous chambers in the USA, continually enhancing our designs to meet rigorous performance standards. The introduction of the Platinum series in 1995 and the Global-N series in 2005 has solidified our reputation for quality and innovation in environmental testing.

Choosing the Right Reach-in Chamber

To find the perfect reach-in chamber for your needs, consider the following:

  • Chamber Size: Select the appropriate volume or dimensions for your test load.

  • Temperature Range: Determine the temperature range required for your specific tests.

  • Humidity Testing: Decide if your tests need humidity control capabilities.

  • Performance Level: Choose the performance level necessary for temperature cycling.

Use our Chamber Selector to explore the range of choices and find the right chamber for your application.

Common Applications

Reach-in environmental chambers from ESPEC are versatile and suitable for a wide range of industries and testing scenarios, including:

  • Product Performance and Reliability: Verify product performance and reliability within its stated operational range.

  • Automotive Testing: Conduct tests on automotive components for under-hood or interior applications.

  • Electronics Testing: Perform high-temperature and high-humidity testing for electronic devices.

  • Long-term Testing: Carry out long-term testing under extreme temperature or humidity conditions for modules or completed devices.

FAQs About Reach-In Chambers from ESPEC

What are the differences between your reach-in chamber series?

  • Platinous Chambers: Our most popular, general-use reach-in series.

  • Global-N Chambers: Equipped with larger heating and cooling systems for faster change rates and larger test loads, including higher heat generation from running test products.

  • Platinum Chambers: Larger chambers offering a full range of performance choices.

  • Agree Chambers: Custom-built to meet exact needs, particularly used for combining with an electrodynamic vibration system.

How do I determine the right size reach-in chamber for my needs?

ESPEC recommends allowing one-third spacing of the product from the chamber walls to ensure sufficient airflow. Single large test samples should have additional allowance.

Can reach-in chambers be integrated with other testing equipment?

Integration of standard models with external test equipment may require special modifications such as access ports or special doors. ESPEC regularly handles such modifications to meet our customers' needs.

Do you offer installation and calibration services for reach-in chambers?

ESPEC provides a free “remote start-up” process to help you begin testing immediately. For higher performance systems, we recommend having our technician on-site. We are certified for 17025 calibrations, which can be performed during an on-site start-up.

What are the maintenance requirements for your reach-in chambers?

  • Humidity Chambers: Extra effort should be made to keep the chamber and humidity equipment clean, especially the humidifier, which can build up minerals.

  • Temperature-only Chambers: These should also be kept clean.

General maintenance includes safety checks, cleaning of the air-cooled condenser, and regular changing of the humidity wet-bulb wick if your system has one.

Can custom features be added to reach-in chambers?

Yes, typical customizations for our reach-in chambers include:

  • Heavy-duty shelves or system reinforcement for heavy loads

  • Custom size chambers (except Platinous), usually expanded in one direction

  • Additional windows for special viewing or cameras

If you have specific customization needs, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
